✍🏼 Pre-Match Ramblings

Pre-Season is in full swing and the games are coming thick and fast – as are first team players returning to the fray for Arsenal. Since the Bournemouth game, Havertz, Gabriel, and Martinelli have all returned to the squad in a lovely boost for not only Mikel Arteta, but the international fans that will be desperate to see our stars in action.

Famously, Manchester United ‘do not play friendlies’ – that was on full show in the same fixture last year in a Pre-Season friendly. In all seriousness, we should be hoping that Ten Hag has told his players to calm down a bit ahead of this game. This is a rivalry that goes back decades, and it is tough to put that aside for what is meant to be a friendly. No rough tackles please. Let’s get through this with no injuries.

A bright spark from the Bournemouth game was Ethan Nwaneri. He seemed to flourish, and not look out of place alongside his far more experienced teammates. It will be interesting to see if he can carry this momentum all the way in our Pre-Season tour. If he does, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the young Brit get some minutes in the early League Cup or FA Cup games in the upcoming season. We haven’t really had any academy breakouts since the likes of Bukayo Saka, and I can definitely sense a frustration about this among the fanbase.
