✍🏼 Pre-Match Ramblings
The last time Arsenal faced a team managed by Adolf Hutter, they sacked their manager the following day. This isn’t a comment on our current situation by any means, it’s just an interesting fact – a fact that should show you how far we have come under the manager that replaced the one that was sacked after a dismal 1-2 loss at home to Eintracht Frankfurt.
This season so far has been one that has been filled with inconsistency. Inconsistency in results, performances, lineups due to injuries, and general mood around the club. The draw at Fulham at the weekend has only fed into this. Is the league title out of reach? Maybe. Is this competition? Absolutely not.
Arsenal and AS Monaco are tied on points coming into this game, with Arsenal having the edge on goal difference. A win for Arsenal would consolidate their position in the coveted top 8 spaced of the new UCL format, meaning 2 less games for those top 8 teams. With our squad already being strained, it is vital we finish in the top 8. Not only to get us in the RO16 of the competition, but also to allow us as much rest as possible as the season goes on.
AS Monaco are missing key players to injury and suspension and will be lining up with an improvised backline. Arsenal playing at home should be able to capitalise on this, and not only secure the three points, but add some digits to our goal difference which may prove vital if the UCL league comes down to the wire.
