✍🏼 Pre-Match Ramblings
Arsenal host reigning champions Liverpool and look to get revenge on the fluke loss they suffered at Anfield at the start of the season. A freak free kick from Dominic Szoboszlai saw Arsenal suffer the first of their two defeats so far this season. It’s funny how close we are to being unbeaten when you look at the nature of our two losses; the other being a last minute goal from Villa.
Like Bournemouth, Liverpool have seemingly been in good from when it comes to not losing, but their ability to actually win games hasn’t been anything other than unremarkable as of late. Liverpool’s last away win in the league came against Spurs before Christmas, if you go a few games back you’ll find a draw at Leeds, a win at West Ham, a loss at City, a loss at Brentford, Chelsea, and Palace. Their away form this season really hasn’t been great.
Liverpool come to the Emirates with both of their big striker signings missing in Isak and Ekitike, as well as Salah away for AFCON, we are looking to be facing a ragtag attack featuring the likes of Wirtz, Jones, and Gakpo (who did a great Richarlison tribute against Fulham).
Meanwhile on the Arsenal side you have a squad that looks as strong as it’s been all season, with our injury list now looking manageable. Odegaard is finding form at the right time and seems to be back to somewhere near his best, Rice continues to be the best midfielder in the world, Gabriel is still shedding off some rust but we look stronger at the back with our Number 6 returning.
Title rivals Man City face Brighton at home tonight, so we could be going into this fixture with City breathing 3 points down our neck. Maybe Welbeck will have something for us – City have looked vulnerable recently, and their CB situation is pretty dire (until they splash the cash on Guehi). It’s vital to keep matching City’s results, and a win against Liverpool will do exactly that.
