🔴 Arsenal Team News:

  • Martin Ødegaard (Knee): Remains a major doubt. Arteta was non-committal today, stating “we’ll see” after discussions with the medical team, but he has not started a game since mid-January.
  • Leandro Trossard (Knock): Also a major doubt. He missed the midweek trip to Leverkusen with a “niggle” and will face a late fitness test tomorrow.
  • Mikel Merino (Foot): Ruled out long-term; currently working on rehabilitation following surgery, with a return not expected until at least late April.

Arsenal visited the Hill Dickinson stadium for the first time back in December in a rather uneventful match which was decided by a Gyokeres penalty in the 27th minute. Arsenal dominated possession with 65%, 2.00xG compared to 0.2 for Everton, and 573 accurate passes compared to 250 for Everton.

✍🏼 Pre-Match Ramblings

The Premier League returns to the Emirates for the first time in 2 weeks as Arsenal host Everton in what will be Arsenal’s 31st league game of the season, leaving just 7 game left in our conquest to lift the Premier League trophy for the first time since the Invincibles.

Arteta will face off against one of the most influential men in his career in David Moyes who is serving his second stint in charge of Everton. Currently sitting 8th in the table, Everton have been punching far above their weight after finishing 13th last season. If a team in the Top 7 of the Premier League win the FA Cup, then 8th place will qualify for the Conference League next season. Qualifying for Europe would be a huge achievement for Everton, so every point matters for them as much as it does for us.

Everton sit 4th in the Away league table, below only Us, City, and Chelsea. They are level on points with Chelsea in this table, and only 1 below City. This is a fixture that we should treat with the same respect we would treat City or Chelsea coming to the Emirates; that is the company in which Everton sit when they travel outside of Merseyside. Only we have conceded less goals away (13) than Everton (14). This will be a tough, hard fought game where 3 points could go either way.

Arsenal faltered midweek against Leverkusen, being rescued by a late penalty to maintain our unbeaten run since losing to United at the end of January. A draw against Leverkusen can be overturned at the Emirates next week, but any result in the league at this point could prove vital in the title race. We play before City this weekend, which is the first time this has happened in a while, meaning we can be 10 points clear of City before they go to a resurgent and determined West Ham. With this game being our last in the league for almost a month, it feels way bigger than it should be. When we next play a league game, we will have either won the EFL Cup or not, we will either be in the Semi Final of the FA Cup or be knocked out, and we will either be in the Quarter Final of the UCL or be knocked out. Let’s not go into this upcoming recess with a loss.
