✍🏼 Pre-Match Ramblings

Arsenal take on German giants Dortmund in their antepenultimate pre-season fixture (if you count the Community Shield) ahead of their defence of the Premier League title in the 2026/27 season. This is our first ever game at the Emirates as Premier League Champions, which still brings a smile to my face to type.

Expect a packed out Emirates stadium for this iteration of the Emirates Cup, a long running pre-season tradition for Arsenal that attracts a lot of supporters who don’t get the chance to attend league games throughout the season. The Emirates Cup was my first chance to attend the Emirates as a child with my Dad and Brother where I was bought a red and white scarf that hangs behind me as I write this, that I wore to the parade a few months ago.

This will be our first chance to see some new Gunners play at their new home, most notably Bruno Guimarães who was announced today – that’s another macro I need to add to my keyboard alongside Ø and ö. In the absence of our usual midfield staples in Rice and Zubimendi, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Brazilian see significant minutes on Sunday.

This summer has seen a lot of the unusual suspects get minutes in the absence of those who went deep in the World Cup. Expect to see more minutes for Mosquera, Nwaneri, Dowman, Salmon, Kepa, and perhaps Nelson and Jesus if their rumoured moves abroad aren’t as far along as we’d like.
